Today was rather crazy. We have recently had false calls to the police department about shootings and gang violence around our school. The following is the latest in the string of atrocities committed by our administration to keep the supposed threat level down.
First off, they searched all students (and anyone who entered the building) at the beginning of the day. Next, they didn't let anyone get out for lunch early because they had a metal detector set up at the door with the students filing in one by one. And last, they wouldn't let any of us get out early from school (we have a special program, Renaissance Club, where you can get out of school early on Wednesday). Luckily they didn't search us then, though.
I can see them doing the searches in the morning, and maybe the metal detector (but no searches) before lunch, but the rest of that was ridiculous. There's a line between being safe and being just plain scared, and they crossed it.

Agreed.
Not to mention, why search and detect twice? If they were confident that their search got everybody in the morning, and if they had the good sense to put a few resource officers at the only unlocked entrance to make sure nobody got in at least without being searched, then there shouldn't have been a search for lunch. It's redundant, a waste of energy to both students, faculty, police, and electricity to power the detector; and it's an unneeded irritant for all involved.
